Trade Nivesh Stock market continued to boom on the second day of the new year. Key indices jumped strongly from all-round shopping. NSE's Nifty reached record highs. Metal and banking stocks were seen most rapidly.
The BSE Sensex gained 321 points or 078 per cent to close at 41,627. At the same time, the Nifty 50 index gained 100 points or 0.82 percent to reach 12,283. This is the highest level of the Nifty. The midcap index recorded a quarter to one percent and the smallcap index gained 1.5 percent.
Tata Motors shares jumped over 5 per cent on the Nifty 50 index. This was followed by Tata Steel, UltraTech Cement, IndusInd Bank, JSW Steel, Vedanta, Grasim, Larsen & Toubro, Hindalco and GAIL (India).
On the other hand, Eicher Motors shares plunged 2.5 per cent. Apart from this, shares of Bharat Petroleum, Bajaj Auto, Cipla, Tata Consultancy Services, Coal India, NTPC, Dr. Reddy's Labs, Nestle India and Asian Paints were the biggest losers.
On Thursday, the indices of all sectors, except the IT index, showed a rapid rise. Only three stocks slipped on the IT index. The metal index jumped two and a half percent and the government bank index jumped two percent. Private bank indexes rose up to 1.25 percent. Finance service and auto index also rose by one per cent each.
Hindustan Copper shares jumped 20 per cent on the metal index. There was a spurt in all public sector banks. RBL Bank's shares in private banks strengthened by 6 percent. Only three on the Finance Services Index and four on the Auto Index disappointed.
Shares of 60 companies hit their 52-week high on the NSE during Thursday's session. It included names like Adani Green Energy, Armaan Financial Services, Bajaj Finserv, Deepak Nitrate, JK Cement, Kalyani Steel and Waterbase.
In contrast, shares of 30 companies, including Cox & Kings, Cyber Media, Gujarat Lease Financing, Jai Prakash Associates, NDTV, Modi Rubber, Somani Homes, Sejal Glass and Special Infotechnics, slipped to their 52-week low.
35 stocks green on the Nifty 50 index, while 15 stocks ended the trade with a red mark. On the 30-share Sensex, 21 stocks gained and nine stocks fell. On the BSE, 1,725 shares closed higher and 771 shares softened
